PROGRAMME: Frame of prototype revealed at AirVenture, Oshkosh, July 2003; first flight due before July 2004.

DESIGN FEATURES: Continues Pitts' 60-year history of aerobatic biplane development. Differs from earlier designs in concentrating bracing wire loads in a single plane between the interplane struts. Designed for simplicity of structure, low weight, ease of construction and strength. Suitable as airshow aerobatic performer.
Choice of semi-symmetric NACA 23012 aerofoil or symmetric SS. Former on prototype. Straight or swept upper wing, to builder's choice; range of empennage shapes, including classic Samson style.
Single-bay biplane with broad-chord interplane strut each side and supporting cabane for upper wing. Wire-braced empennage.

LANDING GEAR: Tricycle type; fixed. Oleo shock absorbers.

POWER PLANT: One 294 kW (394 hp) VOKBM M-14PF nine-cylinder radial.

ACCOMMODATION: Two in tandem beneath single-piece blown canopy.

EQUIPMENT: Optional 'smoke tank' in lower fuselage with external filler.
