WATERMAN

In 1919 Waldo Waterman established W.D. Waterman Aircraft Manufacturing Co., Venice, LA, to design and build Gosling for Mercury. Waterman became designer/pilot for Bach, then manager Van Nuys Airport, finally starting Waterman Airplane Corp., Santa Monica, LA, 1935, to produce simple tailless 2-seat monoplane; developed this into Arrowbile roadable aircraft with detachable swept wings and Studebaker belt-drive to propeller or 4 wheels. Moved to San Diego where in 1968 produced W-11 Chevy Bird ultra-simple single-seater with 140-hp Corvair engine.
