Thurston Aircraft Corp. established 1966 at Sanford, Maine, building HRV research hydrofoil aircraft and then Teal amphibian. Taken over by Schweizer, then Teal Aircraft. Meanwhile Thurston designed Explorer/Observer landplane versions produced (see Patchen), rights being transferred to Dr Maitland Reed’s Air Nova. Thurston later designed improved 4-seat TA16 Trojan amphibian, called TA16 Seafire in production, forming International Aeromarine at Sanford, Florida (not Sanford, Maine), 1982. This later superseded by Thurston Aeromarine Corp., Maine.
