English engineer William Thomas Thomas joined Herring-Curtiss 1909, realized he could design and build on own account and with brother Oliver built first aircraft (10 June 1910). Went into production while W.T.T. toured eastern US giving demo flights. Moved from Hornell to Bath, NY, where with successful business established formed Thomas Brothers Aeroplane Co. May 1912. Also formed engine company and school. In 1914 moved to larger premises at Ithaca, where joined by B. Douglas Thomas (famed ex-Sopwith, no relation) who designed T-2 trainer (24 for RNAS) and 15 similar SH-4 for USN and D-5 for Signal Corps. Needed to expand, hence Thomas-Morse.
