SKYCRUISER CORPORATION
Global Skyship Industries, then the US subsidiary of Aviation Support Group Ltd of the UK, acquired the assets of the former Westinghouse Airships Inc (WAI) in December 1996. As a result, GSI became holder of the type certificates for the UK-designed Skyship 500 HL and Skyship 600 and the WAI Sentinel series. In late 1997, GSI announced that it had re-opened the production line and had these airships available for immediate delivery.
Formation of Skycruiser Corporation was announced on 18 November 2002, as a joint venture between Airship Management Services Inc (AMS) of Greenwich, Connecticut, and Skyship Cruise Ltd of Lindau, Switzerland. New holder of the Type Certificates for the Skyship and Sentinel series of airships, it is part of the Skycruiser group of companies that include AMS, GSI (now co-located with AMS), Skyship Cruise Ltd and Skycruise Switzerland. The companies also operate a maintenance facility and FAA repair station at Skycruiser Corporation's base in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
