Formed in the late 1970s, Rans' earlier designs include S-4/5 Coyote, S-6 Coyote II, S-9 Chaos, S-10 Sakota, S-11 Pursuit and S-14 Airaile. Rans delivered its 3,000th kitplane during 1998 and in 1999 achieved FAA '51 per cent rule' certification of the S-7, S-12 and S-16 kits; by October 2003, sales exceeded 3,600. Latest products are the related S-17 and S-18 single- and two-seat ultralights. In October 2003, Rans employed 45 at its 4,645 m² (50,000 sq ft) factory.
