PORTERFIELD

In 1934 E.E. Porterfield, former president of American Eagle Aircraft, formed Porterfield Aircraft Corp. at Kansas City. At about same time students at Wyandotte High School built Wyandotte Pup 2-seat cabin monoplane designed by Noel Hockaday. Porterfield bought aircraft and designer, marketing former as Porterfield Flyabout February 1935, production of several models exceeding 250. In 1936 lighter version produced as Zephyr, later called CP-40, developed into CP-50 Collegiate of which 7 versions were built with different 50-65-hp engines to total of about 400, ending with Pearl Harbor.
