Curtiss Pitts built Samson 450-hp racer 1945 followed by several Formula racers, but famous aerobatic biplanes began with 190 Special Little Stinker for Betty Skelton (1947). Built several more, and from 1953 made plans available for lower-powered (65-95-hp) versions. As demand grew Pitts Aviation Enterprises formed at Homestead, Florida, marketing plans for S-1 single-seater. Mr Pitts developed 2-seat S-2 (1967) available as factory-built only, produced for Pitts by Aerotek Inc. of Afton, Wyoming (also building S-1 if ordered). Pitts sold out December 1976 to Doyle Child of Afton, who formed Pitts Aerobatics at Aerotek address, continuing until sold November 1983 to Christen Industries.
