G.S. Ireland was sales engineer for Curtiss. When in 1926 supplies of Jennies, Standards and Canucks ran out he decided to form Ireland Aircraft Inc., at Curtiss Field, Garden City, and market Ireland Comet (Oriole fuselage, OX-5 engine and new wings). Ireland Meteor and Neptune followed, latter being amphibian.
