DAYTON-WRIGHT

Formed March 1917 from original Wright company, Orville being appointed technical consultant though objective was to mass-produce to government specification. Three large plants, 2 at Dayton and 1 between nearby Moraine City and Miamisburg, mass-produced DH-4 and Standard J-1, but contracts slashed at Armistice. Control handed to General Motors 1920, depleted workforce built 40 XB-1A (derived from Bristol Fighter) and numerous prototypes including K-T Cabin Cruiser, retractable-gear monoplane RB racer and PS-1 pursuit.
