TYPE: Two-seat lightplane.

PROGRAMME: Design started and construction of first prototype began 1993; first flight 22 June 1995 in MAI-910 configuration. Promotion began at MAKS '99, Moscow, August 1999; by mid-2003, flight testing was nearly complete.
Original version had boom-mounted empennage. Boom subsequently covered with removable fairings, for more conventional appearance, and ventral strake added.

DESIGN FEATURES: Designed to JAR-VLA standards. Braced high-wing monoplane; single bracing strut and jury strut each side; fully enclosed cabin pod; strut- and wire-braced conventional tail unit carried on interchangeable rear fuselage of conventional thickness or on short boom. Wings fold.
Wing section CAHI (TsAGI) Sh-1-14; 1o leading-edge sweepback; thickness/chord ratio 14 per cent; constant chord except for tapered tips; no dihedral; incidence 5o.

FLYING CONTROLS: Conventional and manual. Actuation by cables; long-span flaperon on each wing; ground-adjustable tab on rudder and each elevator.

STRUCTURE: Metal structure with fabric-covered wings and tail surfaces, metal-skinned fuselage. Wings have single tubular spar, diameter 102 mm (4 in), and stamped sheet metal ribs. Materials primarily aluminium alloy, with stainless steel and titanium alloy where appropriate.

LANDING GEAR: Non-retractable tricycle type; single wheel on each unit; cantilever spring legs; mainwheel tyres 400x150 or 300x120; nosewheel tyre 300x120; tyre pressure (all) 2.53 bar (37 lb/sq in). Mechanical brakes with 300x120 tyres; hydraulic brakes with 400x150 tyres. Nosewheel steerable through ±50o. Tailwheel gear optional.

POWER PLANT: One 59.6 kW (79.9 hp) Rotax 912 UL flat-four; Russian two-blade fixed-pitch propeller. Two fuel tanks, each 25 litres (6.6 US gallons; 5.5 Imp gallons); one in each wingroot. Oil capacity 6 litres (1.6 US gallons; 1.3 Imp gallons).

ACCOMMODATION: Two seats side by side in fully enclosed cabin with wide field of view for observation, patrol, search and aerial photography. Passenger seat folds for carriage of stretcher or lengthy freight. Large rearward-sliding window/door each side. Space for baggage or freight behind seats. Cabin heated and ventilated.

SYSTEMS: 12 V AC electrical system; Teledyne battery.

AVIONICS: Comms: UHF radio.
Flight: GPS.
