There have been no recent conversions of Il-76 to this airborne tanker configuration. However, India ordered six Il-78MKIs in February 2001 and these were converted from stocks of uncompleted Il-76s held at TAPO in Uzbekistan. First two were officially transferred to India in March 2003 and final pair were transferred in late 2004. All Indian Il-78s have PS-90A-76 engines in place of D-30KPs of earlier aircraft. Russian Air Forces have requirement for additional tankers to be produced by conversion of existing transports under new designation Il-76MDK.
