BERIEV Be-101

TYPE: Four-seat amphibian.

PROGRAMME: In November 2005, Beriev disclosed that it was shortly to begin construction at Taganrog of a new light amphibian; first flight was then scheduled for mid-2006 with a public debut at the Gelendzhik air show in September of that year.

DESIGN FEATURES: High wing, with downturned tips acting as water stabilisers, mounted to rear of cabin; pusher propeller; sweptback fin and cruciform tailplane; parallel beam, single-step hull. No dihedral.

FLYING CONTROLS: Conventional and manual. Horn-balanced rudder and elevators; tab in each elevator.

LANDING GEAR: Tricycle type; retractable. Mainwheels stowed in hull sides. Operable in Sea State 2, wave height 0.45 m (1 ft 6 in); maximum required water depth 0.9 m (3 ft).

POWER PLANT: One 231 kW (310 hp) Teledyne Continental IO-550-N flat-six driving an MT-Propeller MTV-12 pusher propeller. Fuel capacity 195 litres (51.5 US gallons; 42.9 Imp gallons).

ACCOMMODATION: Pilot and three passengers in side-by-side pairs. Fixed windscreen, plus upward-hinged door each side. Baggage compartment behind seats.
