LEBEDEV

Vladimir Aleksandrovich Lebedev (commonly shortened to Lebed’) was pioneer pilot, setting up aircraft factory at St Petersburg 1912. During war opened additional factories at Taganrog and Penze. In 1912-17 produced Lebed’ VII (first original design, though copy of Tabloid), followed by VIII-XXIV, most being 2-seat recon biplanes often known by name Albatros plus engine type (Mercedes, Salmson, Sunbeam, etc.); XI, XII and XVII were made in greatest numbers, stopped by Revolution.
