A major production centre for Sukhoi aircraft at the present time, KnAAPO has manufactured combat aircraft of the single-seat Su-27 series, including the naval Su-33 and Su-27KUB, and the Su-35/35UB/37, and is also responsible for the S-80 STOL transport, Beriev Be-103 light amphibian and, when placed in production, Kamov Ka-62M helicopter. In September 2001 announced own SA-20P programme, being modified version of Be-103, with single engine.
Known as GAZ-126 when established in 1934, it has built more than 10,000 aircraft for 20 countries, beginning in May 1936. Test airfield is Dzemgi. Other products include small aluminium boats, audio-video equipment, televisions, polygraphy equipment and wooden furniture, and refurbishment of tramcars. Operates own transport airline with four An-12s, one An-26, two An-32s, two (leased to Atlant-Soyuz) Il-76s, two Tu-134s and three Mi-8s. The 100 per cent holding in KnAAPO is to be reduced to 25.5 per cent, creating a joint stock company; balance will be transferred to Sukhoi Aviation Holding Company under Presidential decree of October 2001, placing Novosibirsk and Komsomolsk plants within Sukhoi. Employees in 1999 totalled 15,000.
