TYPE: Single-seat ultralight motor glider/kitbuilt.
PROGRAMME: Designed by Jerzy Krawczyk; initial JK-01 flown in mid-1990s with 9.00 m (29 ft 6¼ in) span and 9.00 m² (96.9 sq ft) wing area.
Revised JK-01a developed to specifications of XC Aviation of Glasgow, UK. Prototype registered (in France) as W64-MA and made public debut, complete but not then flown, at International Microlight Exhibition, Popham, UK, on 29-30 April 2006.
COSTS: Kit GBP10,990 excluding engine; or GBP13,750 all carbon fibre. Flyaway GBP3,660 extra. Engine GBP1,725. Instruments not included (2006).
DESIGN FEATURES: Combination of cross-country ultralight and thermal- or ridge-soaring sailplane; intended to incorporate high technology at low cost and meet British BCAR Section S criteria. Uses some components of Ekolot JK-05. Constant-chord wings with upturned tips mounted in mid-position immediately behind pilot; narrow tailboom; low-mounted, single-piece elevator to rear of rudder; underfin.
Aerofoil section MM18-17 to give mild, stable stall, unaffected by rain or insect adhesion.
FLYING CONTROLS: Manual. Flaperons, single-piece elevator and full-height rudder. Actuation by cable (rudder only) and pushrods.
STRUCTURE: Generally of Parabeam glass fibre, plus carbon fibre for main spar, cockpit rovings and tailboom. Optionally, all carbon fibre.
LANDING GEAR: Tricycle type; fixed. Twin mainwheels mounted at fuselage hips to give narrow track; no shock absorption.
POWER PLANT: One 14.9 kW (20 hp) JPX D330 flat-twin, two-stroke piston engine driving a Peszke three-blade folding propeller via toothed belt. Fuel capacity 15 litres (4.0 US gallons; 3.3 Imp gallons).
EQUIPMENT: Optional Alphaparachute ballistic recovery parachute.
