Ottorino Pomilio enlisted in Battaglione Aviatori 1913, becoming designer together with Savoia to Direzione Tecnica dell'Aviazione Militare. Produced SP 1 and improved SP 2 pusher 2-seaters, with Fiat A12 engine. With permission to set up factory, resigned December 1915, forming SA per Costruzioni Aeronautiche Ing. O. Pomilio & C. February 1916. New factory and airfield built outside Turin, first prototype SP 2 flying there 10 July 1916. In parallel produced C 1 (later PC 1) tractor 2-seater (September 1916), with radiators forming inverted V on front cabane struts. PD followed with ventral fin and better armament (545), followed August 1917 by PE with frontal radiator (1,071).
