JURCA AIR FORCE-COMITÉ MARCEL JURCA
Mr. Marcel Jurca (1921-2001) designed a series of high-performance light aircraft and replicas of Second World War fighters over a period of 55 years. Most have wood or metal tube fuselages; stress analysis is verified by the ESTACA university. Kit production will continue under the aegis of the Jurca Air Force-Comité Marcel Jurca.
Jurca aircraft (all available to amateur builders) are MJ-2 Tempête; MJ-3 Dart; MJ-4 Shadow; MJ-5 Sirocco; MJ-23 Orage; MJ-51 Sperocco; MJ-53 Autan and MJ-55 Biso (Provence wind) two-seat, fully aerobatic trainer which employs NACA 21012 section wing of MJ-7/MJ-77, 134 kW (180 hp) Textron Lycoming engine and first flew (F-PJJR) in October 1997.
Replicas comprise MJ-7 Gnatsum two-third size Mustang Replica; MJ-77 Gnatsum three-quarter size, two-seat Mustang (early- and late-style canopies); MJ-8 three-quarter size Fw 190 Replica; MJ-9 three-quarter size Messerschmitt Bf 109 Replica; MJ-10 three-quarter size Spitfire Replica; MJ-12 three-quarter size P-40 Replica; MJ-100 full-size Spitfire Replica (prototype first flown 14 October 1994; two others under construction at Prescott, Arizona, with 1,044 kW; 1,480 hp Allison piston engines; one with 1,044 kW (1,400 hp) derated Rolls-Royce Griffon Mk 59 at Annemasse, France); MJ-90 full-size Messerschmitt Bf 109 Replica (410 kW; 550 hp Double Ranger V12-770C-1 engine); MJ-80 full-size Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Replica (first under construction in Germany with 895 kW; 1,200 hp Pratt & Whitney R-1830 radial engine); MJ-70 full-size P-51D Mustang Replica (under development by January 1996, will be powered by 1,044 kW; 1,400 hp Allison engine).
Under development in 200 were the MJ-11 single-seat, 119 kW (160 hp) biplane based on the Bücker Bü-133 Jungmeister; and MJ-16 racer, with sportplane derivative.
Some 150 MJ aircraft have been registered and flown and a further 20 are under construction. Leading types are MJ-2 (46 built) and MJ-5 (70). Other Jurca projects include the MJ-15 Delta, MJ-22 Twin Tempête, MJ-50 Bise, MJ-52 Zéphyr, MJ-54 Silas, MJ-56 Sirocco S, MJ-6 Crivats and MJ-14 Fourtouna.
