HANRIOT

René Hanriot was pioneer constructor/aviator, retiring 1913. Returned after outbreak of war to form Aéroplanes Hanriot et Cie, first major contract being over 2,500 Sopwith 1A2/1B2 (1½-Strutter). Emile Dupont designed HD.1 single-seat fighter (June 1916) resembling Sopwith Pup, made in large numbers including 901 by Macchi. HD.2 seaplane version and larger HD.3 2-seat fighter followed. Post-war designs were mainly trainers and sporting aircraft, but included racers and various fighters including a large twin-boom pusher monoplane (H.110, 1933). H.180T (July 1934) 3-seat high-wing cabin monoplane was first of 346, plus many other variants, but H.220 and 232 twin-engined fighter/observation/trainer family made no contribution to war. H.220 was developed into NC.600, designation from SNCA du Centre which under 1936 nationalization law took over former Hanriot company and Bourges factory. See also Lorraine-Hanriot.
