Etablissements Fouga et Cie formed aviation subsidiary at Aire-sur-Adour 1936 to build gliders and, later, powered aircraft, designated CM from technical director Robert Castello and director/designer Pierre Mauboussin, who at that time had his own company. CM.10 transport glider led to CM.100 powered version, but it was sailplanes which, via CM.8R Sylphe (14 July 1949) led to a succession of light jet aircraft culminating in CM.170 Magister jet trainer (27 June 1951), 916 by Fouga plus 188 W. Germany, 62 Finland and 36 Israel. Air Fouga from 1956, purchased by Potez May 1958, becoming Potez Air Fouga until merged into Potez 23 September 1961.
