BOREL

Gabriel Borel produced series of monoplanes 1909-14, numbered Bo.1-Bo.19, most having superficial resemblance to Moranes except for 1913 pushers. Bo.11 served with Aéronautique Militaire and, as seaplane, with RNAS. Most made by Delacombe & Marechal. Conscription of workers closed Mourmelon factory, but restarted November 1915 as Etablissements Borel with 4 factories working on Caudrons, Nieuports and SPADs. Prototype Borel-Odier BoT twin-engine torpedo seaplane destroyed on first flight August 1916, but 91 later built and, in 1919, BoC 10-passenger version. In 1918 company restructured as SGCIM (Société Générale des Constructions Industrielles et Mécaniques), for which Paul Boccaccio designed C1 and C2 (Type 3000) fighters. C2 flew 1919, several times modified; outstanding performance (e.g. 162 mph) but war was over.
