Vereinigte Flugtechnische Werke GmbH formed December 1963 at Bremen by merger of Focke-Wulf and Weser, other shareholders being United Aircraft, Friedrich Krupp, AG Weser and Hanseatische Beteiligungen. Continued work on Transall and F-104G, added Do 31 and Fokker F28 and produced VAK 191B jet V/STOL (10 September 1971). Later worked on own-design VFW 614 short-haul jet (14 July 1971). From 1968 acquired 100% of RFB and 50% of Henschel. With effect from 1 January 1969 VFW became equal partner with Fokker (see Zentralgesellschaft), VFW becoming VFW-Fokker GmbH. This association ended by mutual consent 11 February 1980, VFW becoming wholly owned by MBB 1 January 1981, and losing identity.
