Ernst Udet, 62 victories in First World War, lent his name to Udet-Flugzeugbau GmbH formed near Munich October 1922 by American William Pohl to build light aircraft to design of Hans Herrmann. In fact U 1-U 5 had flown previously, all small monoplanes. U 7 Kolibri single-seat parasol was made in substantial numbers; U 8 was 4-passenger, and U 11 Kondor a 3-crew and 8-passenger (4 x 100-hp). By 1925 company financially in bad shape, and not even large demand for U 12 Flamingo biplane trainer could save it. Bankrupt when trying to meet U 12 demand 1925, premises taken over by BFW, which continued production.
