Made railway rolling stock at Hundsfeld, Breslau. In early 1916 began repairing and then building under licence Albatros and LFG Roland aircraft. Hired designer Paul Stumpf from AEG and produced R.I giant bomber with 4 x 260-hp Mercedes in incredibly deep fuselage driving propellers on wing struts (21 January 1917). Second R.I built alongside amazing R.II, colossal aircraft but with just 2 wheels, open cockpit amidships and 4 engines driving single propeller on nose! Span over 138 ft, propeller diameter 23 ft. Planned post-war passenger version not built.
