First fighting aircraft produced in new country was ascribed to designer Alois Smolik, though built at what was then called Central Aircraft Works (June 1920). Sm 1 was Warren-strut 2-seater (220-hp Hiero). Excellent aircraft, Smolik subsequently being chief designer of Letov.
