TYPE: Six-seat kitbuilt.
PROGRAMME: Announced April 1995; prototype Super Rebel (then designated SR 2500) SR 2500 (C-GKSR), with initial MTOW of 1,134 kg (2,500 lb), first flew November 1995; parts shipments began in late 1995 with tail sections. Tricycle version first flew May 1997. Increased gross weight Moose (originally SR 3500) introduced at Sun 'n' Fun 2001; prototype converted from Super Rebel demonstrator C-GBZD.
CURRENT VERSION: Super Rebel: Standard version.
Moose: Increased gross weight version, first flown 2 April 2001; (VOKBM engine); choice of two power plants. Tailwheel version only.
CUSTOMERS: Some 217 sold by mid-2002, of which 19 completed.
COSTS: Super Rebel: Basic kit less engine, propeller, instruments and avionics: tailwheel version US$26,500; tricycle version US$28,000 (2003).
Moose: Basic kit, less engine, propeller, instruments and avionics, US$32,000 (2003). Fast-build kit extra US$16,000.
DESIGN FEATURES: Development of Murphy Rebel. All-metal construction. Quoted build time 1,400 to 1,800 hours. Fast-build kits have quoted build time of 800-1,000 hours.
FLYING CONTROLS: Conventional and manual. Horn-balanced tail surfaces. Electric trim and three-stage (0, 18, 33°) flaps; ailerons deflect 20° up and 12° down; ailerons droop 12° when 33° flap deployed.
STRUCTURE: Wing is identical in shape to that of Rebel and Elite; aerofoil modified NACA 4415. Three-spar wing; leading-edge of 0.032 sheet aluminium.
LANDING GEAR: Tailwheel configuration is standard; tricycle also available. Optional hardpoints enable rapid conversion. Main and nose tyres 8.00-6 in; tail wheel has 9 in tyre. Dual brakes. Optional 3600 series floats.
POWER PLANT: Super Rebel: Prototype has 186 kW (250 hp) Textron Lycoming O-540-A4A5 driving two-blade (three-blade optional) constant-speed Hartzell propeller, but design accommodates engines from 134 to 224 kW (180 to 300 hp). Fuel in two wing tanks, total capacity 227 litres (60.0 US gallons; 50.0 Imp gallons). Optional larger tanks increase capacity by further 303 litres (80.0 US gallons; 66.6 Imp gallons).
Moose: Choice of 186 kW (250 hp) Textron Lycoming IO-540 or 265 kW (355 hp) VOKBM M-14P radial, latter driving two-blade wooden propeller. Fuel capacity as SR 2500.
ACCOMMODATION: Pilot and up to five passengers in two pairs of side-by-side seats plus optional jump seat; dual controls. Rear bench seat can be removed to provide cargo capacity. Baggage compartment is reached by large cargo door on port side of fuselage, behind passenger door.
