TYPE: Single-seat ultralight kitbuilt.

PROGRAMME: Design commenced December 1998; initially shown in uncompleted form at Oshkosh in 2000. Prototype (C-IGTD) first flown 30 March 2001 and made public debut at Sun 'n' Fun the following month as 'conceptual' design to evaluete market response. Launched at AirVenture, Oshkosh, July 2001.

CUSTOMERS: First production aircraft shown at AirVenture, Oshkosh, July 2003.

COSTS: US$6,995, excluding engine, for first 30 kits (2003).

DESIGN FEATURES: Murphy's first low-wing design; meets FAR Pt 103. Produced with different wing and engine sizes to satisfy Canadian, European and US regulations. Wings fold upwards for storage; open cockpit.

FLYING CONTROLS: Conventional and manual. No aerodynamic balancing. Frise ailerons.

STRUCTURE: Semi-monocoque fuselage and constant-chord wings covered with aluminium sheet; wings comprise three C-channel spars and have NACA 4415 section. Ailerons have aluminium ribs; aluminium tube empennage with wire bracing; control surfaces fabric-covered.

LANDING GEAR: Tricycle type; fixed. Strut-braced 12.7 cm (5 in) mainwheels fitted with 8.00-6 tyres 8.8 cm (3½ in) tailwheel on prototype. Optional bungee or spring steel available for Canadian/European version.

POWER PLANT: One 22.0 kW (29.6 hp) air-cooled Rotax 277 engine driving a GSC two-blade, wooden propeller in prototype; design will accept engines up to 59.7 kW (80 hp) for the Canadian/European market and in the range 18.6 to 22.4 kW (25 to 30 hp) for the US market. Fuel capacity in Canadian/European version 75.7 litres (20.0 US gallons; 16.7 Imp gallons); in US version 18.9 litres (5.0 US gallons; 4.2 Imp gallons).
