PROGRAMME: Announced, then as Very Light Jet (VLJ), 3 May 2005; BMW Group DesignworksUSA announced as interior designer 6 October 2005; named Phenom 100 and cabin mockup unveiled at the NBAA Convention in Orlando, Florida, 9 November 2005; wind tunnel testing completed by July 2006; first PW615F engine run 29 June 2006; engine first flown on Pratt & Whitney Canada test bed aircraft 16 October 2006; first flight expected in mid-2007; engine certification anticipated fourth quarter 2007; service entry scheduled for mid-2008.

CUSTOMERS: More than 235 firm orders held by 5 September 2006. Announced customers include ABC Taxi Aereo (one), Avantair (20), Eagle Creek Aviation Service (12 plus five options), Gold Aviation Services of Fort Lauderdale, Florida (five, plus 10 options for either Phenom 100s or 300s), JetBrief of Geneva (50, plus 50 options), Magnum Jet of Houston, Texas (50, plus 50 options for either Phenom 100s or 300s), United Aviation (one), and Wondair of Valencia, Spain (24, plus 12 options for either Phenom 100s or 300s).

COSTS: USD2.85 million (2006).

DESIGN FEATURES: Low wing with modest sweepback; T tail; twin, podded, rear-mounted turbofans.

STRUCTURE: Generally of aluminium alloy. Named suppliers include Eaton Corporation (hydraulic power generation package, flap system, landing gear hydraulic components and cockpit controls for throttle, landing gear and flaps) and Pratt & Whitney Canada (engines). Airframe engineered for 35,000 cycles.

LANDING GEAR: Nosewheel type; retractable. Brake-by-wire system with anti-skid.

POWER PLANT: Two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW617T turbofans, with FADEC, each rated at 7.18 kN (1,615 lb st).

ACCOMMODATION: Choice of interior layouts for up to six passengers in 'Oval Light' cabin, designed by BMW Group DesignworksUSA. Typical layouts include six forward-facing seats, or four seats in club arrangement with forward wardrobe or refreshment centre and lavatory at rear. Door on port side, forward of wing. Four cabin windows per side. Cabin is pressurised and air-conditioned.

AVIONICS: 'Prodigy' flight deck with three landscape format flat panel screens, two for PFD and one for MFD functions.
