TYPE: Side-by-side ultralight/kitbuilt.

PROGRAMME: Prototype Australian LightWing (ALW) made first flight June 1986; initially with 47.8 kW (64.1 hp) Rotax 582 UL; many sold conforming to CAO 95 Pt 25 requirements; also produced under homebuilt or CAO 101 Pt 28 regulations in non-retractable tailwheel and twin-float configurations; first amphibian model delivered in 1990. Type certificate issued 25 September 1998.

CURRENT VERSIONS: GR-912: Tailwheel version. As described.
GR-912-T: Tricycle landing gear version; marketing designation Sport 2000.
LightWing Truck: Added to range in 2002; uses same wing married to 45 cm (1 ft 5¾ in) longer fuselage with extra space behind seats able to accommodate two further seats; reinforcing has obviated need for wire bracing on tail unit. Cabin width increased by 15 cm (6 in). Powered by 84.6 kW (113.4 hp) Rotax 914. Initially offered in tailwheel configuration, with nosewheel version due to enter service in 2003.

CUSTOMERS: Over 170 aircraft (all models) delivered by end 2002: most registered under AUF rules. Claimed 29 per cent share of Australian two-seat light trainer market with GR-912.

COSTS: GR-912 A$85,900 factory built (2003).

DESIGN FEATURES: Modified Clark Y wing section.

FLYING CONTROLS: Conventional and manual. Optional flaps.

STRUCTURE: Strut-braced metal wings; welded steel tube fuselage and tail; tail surfaces are wire-braced; composites and polyfibre covering.

LANDING GEAR: Non-retractable tailwheel type; optional amphibious floats with retractable mainwheels and non-retractable tailwheels (latter doubling as water rudders).

POWER PLANT: One 73.5 kW (98.6 hp) Rotax 912 ULS flatfour driving a two- or three-blade propeller; Aerofiber wooden two-blade fixed-pitch propeller recommended. Fuel capacity 60 litres (15.8 US gallons; 13.2 Imp gallons) of which 59 litres (15.6 US gallons; 13.0 Imp gallons) are usable.
