Nestor Slepcev designed, built and flew two earlier aircraft before producing the Storch Mk 4. By 2003, 140 of the type had been produced. In August 1996, Mr Slepcev landed a Storch Mk 4 on Gran Sasso, Italy, in re-enactment of the rescue of Benito Mussolini, 53 years earlier.
