KAZANSKOYE AVIATSIONNOYE PROIZVODSTVENNOYE OBEDINENIE IMENI S.P. GORBUNOVA (Kazan Aircraft Production Association named for S.P. Gorbunov)

KAPO (formerly GAZ-22) established in Moscow on 14 May 1927 and moved to Kazan in November 1941; has built more than 18,000 aircraft of 34 types, including the Tu-4, Tu-16, Tu-22, Tu-104 and Il-62. It currently produces the Tupolev Tu-214 and will manufacture the Tu-330 freighter, if it is ordered, and is assigned the Tu-324 regional airliner. In 2000, KAPO belatedly delivered one Tu-160 strategic bomber, completion of which had been delayed by collapse of the former USSR; a second was follow in 2002, but was delayed at least until 2003 and a further two are planned. In April 2002, Kazan received the first of 15 in-service Tu-160s to undergo upgrading; two Tu-22Ms also in stock.
Under aerospace industry restructuring plans announced in 2001, KAPO is to be joined with RSK 'MiG', Kamov, Tupolev and their associated plants (Sokol, Aviakor, Aviastar and KAPP).
